Whether it’s a company offering a blockchain based communication network or an ERP system for businesses, the need for cutting edge software solutions that help enteprises improve their communication and enteprise management has never been greater.

In today’s fast-paced digital environment, Application Service Providers (ASPs) meet this need by providing platforms for the conveyance of signals on electronic communications networks and includes telecommunications and transmission services over electronic communications networks.

In  Kenya, an Application Service Provider (ASP) is a licensee authorized by the  Communication Authority of Kenya to provide Applications and related services over the  Internet. Examples of application services include credit card payment services, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, exchange rate services and inventory management systems. 

Before commencing operation as an Application Service Provider you will need a license from the Communications Authority of  Kenya( CAK). The Authority has in place a Unified Licensing Framework (ULF) that allows it to license Network Facilities Providers (NFPs), Application Service Providers (ASPs) and Content  Service Providers (CSPs). 

What do you need to get an Application Service Provider Licence in Kenya? 

1. An entity registered in Kenya as a company, sole proprietor or partnership with a duly registered office and permanent premises in Kenya. 

2. A comprehensive business plan encompassing your business strategy and a detailed description of your services.  

3. Details of shareholders and directors including their national IDs/passports and PIN  certificates. 

4. Provide evidence of compliance with tax requirements. 

5. The application is accompanied by a fee of Kshs 5,000 and an initial operational licensing fee of Kshs 100,000 once accepted.
